NO RUDE ANSWERS PLEASE: Natural remedies to alleviate the pain/pressure associated with cramps (period)?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 and filed under 6 |

I'm already up to 750mg acetaminophen, 750mg asprin (which i shouldn't take becasue it irritates an ulcer) (pills are an acetaminophen/asprin combo i took 3) AND 500mg ibuprofin AND i'm still in pain. this total usally triples by the end of the day when i have my period. I get cramps after i get my period, not before. And It only lasts 3 days usually, but im always in a lot of pain so that i cant walk or get out of bed or do anything unless i take a lot of OTC meds for it. I don't particulary like taking that much, i don't think its all that healthy… is there anything else i can do, (natural remedies?) maybe besides swallow enough asprin to kill a horse that would alleviate the pain of cramps so that i can function?
I've heard herbal tea works, but i drink tea and it doesnt help. Should i cut out coffee or other things from my diet when i have my period, would this help?
Also, i've tried the heat compresses, and they help a little.
Anyone else have this problem? suggestions?
I usually have to take a bunch of OTC pain relievers and sleep it off…. this sucks. What else can i do?
… thanks for the input…..
will birth control regulate it? i dont ever know when i'm due for my period…. it doesnt come every month, and skips weeks…. i could get it the 3rd week of one month… then 2 weeks later, then not for 2 more months…. it's been like that for years; it last 3 days and is always A LOT of pain….
Thanks very much to all who responded. It was very helpful. While there are some 'options' i would never try, i was not offended by anything that was said herein as i had asked for opinions and that is what i received.
I appreciate the responses equally.
Thank you.

Don't know whether it will help now but a natural remedy for preventing period cramps is eating roughage.. such as apples and raw cabbage.. eat plenty of that before your next period to help with the cramps (trust me it works)..

Perhaps you can eat plenty now and hopefully it will help. If the pain persists see your doctor as it could be something else

Oh and drink plenty of water and yes cut the coffee

I hope you don't interpret this as being rude, but in many cases orgasming (either alone or with a partner) can alleviate the pain associated with a woman's period.

My best friend has begun swearing by Evening Primrose oil, which you can usually find in capsules in any grocery store. The capsules are large, and you usually take them 3 times a day with your meals. They are supposed to help alleviate cramps over time as you take them, and my best friend actually is doing alot better. (She use to have horrible cramps).

I've just started taking them, and I have no symptoms for my period as of yet (and I'm due tomorrow). I'm not sure whether it's the oil or whether I've been really sick.

Talk to a pharmacist or a doctor before using it though.

A lot of times birth control can be taken to help relieve cramps, as well as regulate your period & deter pregnancy. Your insurance company may be willing to pay for it if you get a letter from your doctor explaining that your birth control is for a medical condition, not a life choice. My cramps were wretched; BC worked for me!

Try chamomile tea. You can drink more than one cup. Put a hot water bottle on your stomach and put your feet up. Try to get a lot of rest. Sleep helps. I have always had cramps so bad that when I was having a baby (my first), The contractions didn't seem any worse than my period. I'd say, Buck up, girlie. Everyone gets pain.
