Effective massage for muscle pain relief

Posted by admin on August 10th, 2008 and filed under muscle pain relief | No Comments »

Everybody at some stage in their lives suffers or has suffered from muscle pain and knows how painful and distracting as well as time consuming treatment can be.

Apart from the fact that muscle pain is a nuisance, it can have deeper seated causes such as a damaged sciatica nerve or a slipped disc.

Muscle pain relief and migraine pain relief for example can be simple and involve the same methods:

The University of Miami played around with several different protocols in treating the migraine sufferers. They found the most success with the following treatment regime: between migraine attacks, deep tissue work around the base of the skull, neck, shoulders, and upper back helped to relieve tension contributing to the recurrence of migraines.

When a migraine sets in, the scientists at the University of Miami had the most success with the sufferers face up only. Deep massage anywhere near the head at this time worsened the migraine. Light touch brought on pain relief. However, stimulation of the hands and feet with circulation enhancing massage helped to draw blood (and pressure) from the head to the extremities, alleviating the pain significantly.

Similarly if one applies the right amount of pressure in a massage muscle pain relief can be almost instantaneous as I can testify from my own experience.

Massage is an ancient skill practiced and treasured by nearly every culture in the world throughout history. It is also quite a natural means of self-healing and connecting with friends and partners.

NO RUDE ANSWERS PLEASE: Natural remedies to alleviate the pain/pressure associated with cramps (period)?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 and filed under 6 | 6 Comments »

I'm already up to 750mg acetaminophen, 750mg asprin (which i shouldn't take becasue it irritates an ulcer) (pills are an acetaminophen/asprin combo i took 3) AND 500mg ibuprofin AND i'm still in pain. this total usally triples by the end of the day when i have my period. I get cramps after i get my period, not before. And It only lasts 3 days usually, but im always in a lot of pain so that i cant walk or get out of bed or do anything unless i take a lot of OTC meds for it. I don't particulary like taking that much, i don't think its all that healthy… is there anything else i can do, (natural remedies?) maybe besides swallow enough asprin to kill a horse that would alleviate the pain of cramps so that i can function?
I've heard herbal tea works, but i drink tea and it doesnt help. Should i cut out coffee or other things from my diet when i have my period, would this help?
Also, i've tried the heat compresses, and they help a little.
Anyone else have this problem? suggestions?
I usually have to take a bunch of OTC pain relievers and sleep it off…. this sucks. What else can i do?
… thanks for the input…..
will birth control regulate it? i dont ever know when i'm due for my period…. it doesnt come every month, and skips weeks…. i could get it the 3rd week of one month… then 2 weeks later, then not for 2 more months…. it's been like that for years; it last 3 days and is always A LOT of pain….
Thanks very much to all who responded. It was very helpful. While there are some 'options' i would never try, i was not offended by anything that was said herein as i had asked for opinions and that is what i received.
I appreciate the responses equally.
Thank you.

Don't know whether it will help now but a natural remedy for preventing period cramps is eating roughage.. such as apples and raw cabbage.. eat plenty of that before your next period to help with the cramps (trust me it works)..

Perhaps you can eat plenty now and hopefully it will help. If the pain persists see your doctor as it could be something else

Oh and drink plenty of water and yes cut the coffee

Relief for extreme round ligment pain?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 and filed under 5 | 3 Comments »

I am 7 1/2 months pregnant with my second child. I started having round ligament pain at around 4 months and I noticed it when I'd been standing for awhile (about an hour). The pain didn't come until late in my 6 month in my first pregnancy, so I knew I was in for it this time with it coming so early. My doctor recommended heat and tylenol, but the heat only helps the pain while it's on, and I haven't noticed the tylenol making a difference. I have a 2 1/2 year old son who is very active, so it isn't possible for me to sit around all day (plus I have a bazillion things to do with a new baby coming and the holidays upon us). I try to take it easy during his nap and once he goes to sleep, but it's not enough. It hurts so bad that just rolling over in bed is excruciating! Sometimes it's bad enough that I limp when I walk.

Has anyone ever had round ligament pain this bad, and how did you deal with it? I've tried maternity belts and girdles, but they just hurt worse. Please help!!

The more you move and stretch the better it gets. Laying down and sitting only keeps the tendons from doing the stretching they need to do.

It really will pass, and yes, it does really hurt that bad.

I had a few days where it was so bad that i broke down and took a tylenol. It helped a lot. But mostly just walking around and stretching helped a lot.

Also, not having enough water in your system makes it worse.

Honestly, I think it sounds more like the baby is on a nerve, which is also normal for pregnancy, and hurts like holy hell. I had that too.

Also, try a belly band, you can get them in stores and through catalogs, online and things like that. Theyre straps that kinda hold your stomach up so it doesnt stretch and hurt to much. They can make your back hurt though.. lol.

Help! Joint pain relief for my dog?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 and filed under 4 | 11 Comments »

I am looking for any help on relieving my 9 year old male Rottweiler's joint pain in his knees. He has had surgery on both and seems to have arthritis. I am considering using Hill's J/D recommended by my vet, but am not sure of its quality. I try glucosamine & MSN pills but he rarely gets them down.

Does anyone have experience with J/D or have any other solutions to relieve the poor boy's pain?

Caesar says thanks!!!!!

Hills is not a quality food, it is full of cheap fillers (do your homework on food quality). Most vets recommend it cause they get a kick back to do so. Go to a health food or nutrition store and get "Joint Solution" the brand is Peak Nutrition. One in the morning, two at night…on an empty stomach. Dip the caplets in a little peanut butter to get him to eat them. This is what my holistic vet recommends as opposed to things like Rimadyl, that can be very hard on your dog : )

As for food, check into Canidae, Royal Canin or Flint River Ranch…all super premium foods that have a Lot of the things (like vitamins and omega 3's) that will also help your dog.

What is the compond of Glucosamine? How does it help joint and muscle pain relief? Is it vitamin or what?

At my pharmacy there is product herbal based; Natural Support Joint & Muscle Comfort Support. Pharmacist said no known success of this. Suggested Gluscosamine for repair cartlidge; many brands available. Which is best?

Glucosamine is an amino acid that is usually taken from shellfish (the slimey lining) its C6H13NO5
It may help to stop or reverse joint degeneration by stimulating the production of hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans which are the essential building blocks for forming and repairing cartilage. Research has been pretty good and unless you are alergic to shellfish or diabetic (its a type to sugar) its usually fine to take.
Boots, Tesco etc should all be about the same quality, they have a reputation to keep up, although as its not a drug its not regulated and products do vary. You can get it on prescription by your GP which should ensure quality (you hope!)
I'm firmly in the 'give it a go' camp, 1500 mg a day and give it at least 3 months to help your arthritis

what are the best natural remedies for period pain?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2008 and filed under 6 | 8 Comments »

what would be the best kind of food to eat to provide the vitamins and nitrients you are missing when you get alot of pain every month? I have it some monthes bad and others hardly at all. Is this do with what im eating? Also, are there some yoga positions that can help? Does anyone know of a useful site about this sort of thing?
sorry i meant nutrients with a u!!

If you are experiencing symptoms of menstrual cramps, it's important to see your doctor to be properly diagnosed.

Although certain natural remedies show some promise, there hasn't been enough research at this point to conclude they're effective. Here are some of the more popular natural remedies for menstrual cramps.

Magnesium, acupressure, omega-3 fatty acids, low-fat diet, vitamin E, vitamin B1, heat (such as a heat pack, warm bath/shower), aromatherapy, massage, calcium, chiropractic exercise or you could go to the chemist and ask them for something for the pain if none of the above-mentioned helps.

I would recommend that if painful cramps during your period is so bad that it interferes with your daily activities or causes you to miss work/school because of it, that you definitely see your doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation as painful periods can sometimes be caused by conditions such as endometriosis which can sometimes cause severe pain from an early age (although the pain typically gets worse as the disease does more damage with each monthly cycle). Other causes can include fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and sometimes a narrowing of the cervix (using all these conditions as examples only).

Hope this helps. Good luck :)
